Licensed Professional Counselor in Houston, TX

Hey! I’m Kathleen Smith, MA, LPC. I specialize in working with people who have always felt a little different — the self-described weirdos, deep feelers, and overthinkers.
My life has been a path of self-discovery — from enduring bullying to embracing my quirks and learning to live fully with social anxiety. I’m quirky, petite, introverted, and yes — I stutter and sometimes repeat my words. I have niche interests and a brain that doesn’t always follow the script.
And I’ve learned this: being human means making room for all of it.
The awkwardness. The sensitivity. The rejection. The joy. The parts that don’t fit neatly into a box.
In our work together, you don’t have to edit yourself. You don’t have to be less intense, less emotional, less “too much.” Therapy with me is about learning to accept your full humanity — and discovering that you’ve always been enough, even when it doesn’t feel like it.

Therapy Approach
My approach to therapy is as multi-faceted as the clients I work with. While I often lean toward cognitive-based strategies, I integrate mindfulness and trauma-informed modalities such as IFS and EMDR to support deeper healing and nervous system regulation.
Whether you're seeking anxiety therapy, trauma therapy, or couples counseling, I believe therapy should be tailored to you — your story, your pace, and the way your brain and body process emotions and experiences. My role is to help you better understand yourself, build practical tools for managing life’s stressors, and strengthen your ability to respond — rather than react — to what’s within and around you.
Together, we focus on:
-
Reducing anxiety and overwhelm
-
Processing traumatic experiences safely
-
Strengthening self-awareness and self-leadership
-
Improving communication and connection in relationships
-
Building resilience in the face of uncontrollable stressors
My role is to walk alongside you as you learn to manage what’s within your control, grieve what isn’t, and move toward a grounded, empowered version of yourself.
If this resonates with you, I invite you to schedule a consultation call.
